How We Got Started

     Bess began collecting minerals as a young girl, encouraged by her Scottish stone mason Grandpa.  Bess and Dick met in a San Diego State University geology course (Bess was the sole female geology major that year).

     During Dick's USAF career, in our leisure time, we continued actively producing our graphic designs and adding to our geologic and art collections.

     Throughout our other careers, we've continued to produce graphic designs, tee shirts, and graphic art items such as pictures and book illustrations.  Our themes involved sites in Alaska (National Park Service duty and several military tours) and the Yosemite National Park region of California (our original family home).

     We owned a brick-and-mortar store, the Boerne Rock Shop (near San Antonio, Texas), but closed it in 2014 when we moved back to California to be closer with family.
